6520 Weymouth Road
Mays Landing, New Jersey
|
The Property
The property is located at 6520
Weymouth Road in Mays
Landing NJ (route 559), a quiet back road minutes from downtown Mays
Landing, the Atlantic City Expressway and the Garden State Parkway.
This is an Estate Property in every sense of the word
encompassing almost nine acres with its own private lake. We're
estimating the man-made spring fed lake at approximately two acres in
size. Please see the survey below to see the exact proportions of the
property and lake.
This lot has been grandfathered by Hamilton Township
as there is an abandoned home of the property and we will gladly provide
documentation and contacts within the township to verify this status.
There is an additional old foundation on the property that will allow
you to build a large barn style garage or carriage house with a finished
second story home office. The main house will be limited to approx.
5,500 sq.ft.
An existing private drive enters the property
along its northern edge. No Pinelands
approvals are required for the house or drive.
There are existing well and septic systems on the
property. Both will need to be brought up to current standards with the
construction of a new home and a site plan showing the location of the
new system will have to be filed with the NJDEP (cost $60).

A fisherman's Dream
The lake (approximately 2
acres), is a man made spring fed lake created (we
think) in the 1940's. Whoever designed this lake had fish in mind. It's
deep in the center. Shallow areas along the shoreline are covered with
lily pads from spring through fall, creating a perfect fish habitat.
There are currently bass, pickerel and several other fish living in the
lake.
More importantly our conversations with the state have
indicated that, since the lake does not empty into the Lake Lenape
reserve, you are able to stock the lake with non-native fish species. So
not only can you have the perfect fishing spot right off your patio. You
can choose the type of game fish to stock it with.

Historic
Mays Landing
Mays
Landing was founded in 1756 when George May built a shipyard and trading
post near Babcock Creek. The earliest businesses in the area were glass
blowers, ship builders, fisherman and iron mills. By the late 1700's
Atlantic County was providing the bulk of the iron for the American
colonies from local bog iron deposits, and its mills provided the
majority of canon balls and shot for the Revolutionary Army. The ruin of
one of these early mills is now preserved in a county park just up the
street on Weymouth road at
Weymouth Furnace Park.
The iron mills would eventually go quiet when better quality iron was
found in Western Pennsylvania and Ohio, but glass making, ship building
and fishing remain important industries.

Lake Lenape
Antiques
|
Today Mays Landing is the county seat for Atlantic County and it is
the historic district of Hamilton Township, New Jersey's largest
community. Hamilton Township is an active growing community with good
schools, abundant shopping and the atmosphere you can only find in a
small historic community.
The Main Street area of Mays Landing was recently declared a Historic
District by the state. That has meant an influx of money to restore
historic buildings. The cotton mill on Lake Lenape is being renovated
into high end condominiums and shops, Main Street features antique
shops, restaurants and even an gourmet Italian Market. As development of
the historic district and waterfront continue you can expect a growing
number of shops and galleries to populate this growing area.
Every summer Mays Landing hosts its Hometown Celebration, an outdoor
fair featuring a parade, sidewalk sale, outdoor concerts and in the
evening fireworks over Lake Lenape.

Great for children
Whether paddling around the lake,
exploring your own nine acres of private forest, watching eagles soar
overhead or enjoying the Historic District, Mays Landing is a great
place for kids and parents alike.
Just down the street there is a playground, hiking
trails and watersports in
Lake Lenape Park, which anchors one end of Main Street. Just a
few minutes further down the road is the Hamilton Mall.
The award winning schools are modern, the community is
friendly and there are organized sports and activities for the kids.
And as Mays Landing is increasingly home to
professionals and college graduates, there is a corresponding focus on
preparing students for higher education.
There
is something to be said for growing up in a small town environment. Mays
Landing is a place where your kids can ride their bikes down main street
to the library, hang out with friends by the water, and catch tadpoles
in the local streams.
You simply can't find this kind of lifestyle in condo
communities or even in most suburban communities today, where the idea
of life revolving around main street, and festivals and fireworks has
been lost.

Minutes from Shopping and Restaurants
Main Street is home to an ever
increasing variety of shops, bed & breakfasts and restaurants.
Shopping possibilities include antique shops, an old
fashioned hardware store, a cigar shop a gourmet Italian market and of
course a WaWa for those convenience items. It's also home to a variety
of restaurants from casual dining or a quick pizza to the delightful
waterfront Inn
at Sugar Hill.
Just ten minutes away is the
Hamilton Mall and its surrounding shopping complexes. Taken together
this is one of the largest shopping centers in South Jersey, larger than
either the Cherry Hill or Depford Malls. It includes a wide variety of
stores, restaurants, big box retailers and a movie theater.
Want even more variety? You can be in Atlantic City in
fifteen minutes with all the shops, retailers, jewelers, designer
clothing and luxury shops you can imagine.
Check out the
Shop Atlantic
City Web site for more details.

Your Boat Nearby
If you enjoy boating you'll be glad
to hear that the Mays Landing Marina is literally at the end of the
street!
Approximately a mile from your doorstep, Mays Landing
Marina provides access to motor down the Great Egg River to fish and
boat in the Atlantic Ocean and the back bays.
There are numerous waterfront bars and restaurants up
and down the coast or you can stop at
Trump Marina
or the Borgata
for fine dining or gaming. This is some of New Jersey's best boating.
If small boats are more to your liking, the boat ramp
and freshwater fishing of
Lake Lenape are only a mile from your door.
The quiet waters of Lake Lenape are home to a variety
of fresh water game fish. Year round you'll see fisherman out on the
lake, and recreational boaters and sailors in the spring through fall
months.
